How are African bees different from  European bees?

The African bee is slightly smaller than our domestic bee, but it takes a laboratory test to measure the difference. A single African bee sting is no more venomous than a single European bee sting. The most important difference is in their behavior. African bees produce more offspring, defend their nests much more fiercely and in greater numbers and are more likely to abandon the nest (abscond) when threatened by predators or adverse environmental conditions. More about African Bees

Where did the African bees come from?

A: African honey bees were brought to Brazil in the 1950’s for testing as possible alternative pollinators and honey producers because of their reputation of being hardy in tropical environments. At the time, their defensive nature and ability to reproduce in greater numbers were not well understood. Some were accidentally released and have spread throughout South and Central America, Mexico and all throughout the southern U.S.

Is it illegal to exterminate honey bees?

Although honey bees are an important agricultural resource, it is not illegal for a licensed pest control company or home owner to eradicate a nuisance honey bee colony.

Bee Removal, Relocation and Extermination should always be left up to licensed experts in that field.
Honey bee removal can be extremely dangerous you should never try doing it yourself.

What to expect from Tropical Apiaries Bee Removal experts
  • We will humanely relocate the bees rather than exterminate whenever possible.
  • We will discuss the bee removal procedure with you before beginning the job. You should be aware that we may need to cut into the structure so we can remove all the honey combs.
  • Apply only pesticides that are Pet Friendly when dry.
  • Remove all bees and honey combs associated with the colony. If the comb is not completely removed, cockroaches and other insects will be attracted to the rotting brood, fermenting honey may produce an unpleasant odor, and melting wax may soak into the wall causing a stain and rendering that wall impossible to paint or wallpaper.
  • We will discuss bee proofing and answer all of your questions in a professional manor.

Some general precautions

  • Look for bees entering or leaving an area, indicating a feral colony or swarm.

  • Examine area prior to using noisy power equipment (lawn mowers, blowers, chain     saws, etc.).

  • Never disturb a swarm or colony of bees!

  • If allergic to bee stings, obtain an emergency sting kit.

  • Never attempt to trim a tree if there is an active bee nest in it.

  • Do not use a pressure cleaner in close proximity to a honey bees.

  • Spraying bees with water will only anger them it will not kill them.

If a feral colony or
"swarm" is found

  • Do not disturb it—stay away. If an African bee colony is disturbed, the bees could       endanger everybody within 100 feet or more and they could stay angry for hours.

  • Contact Tropical Apiaries we are your local bee removal experts.

  • Do not spray anything on the bees it could cause them to attack.

  • If bees are in a CBS block wall, do not close the hole that usually drives the bees     in your house.
